Central Street that paved with square stones

Central Street in Harbin, almost 1,500m long, is paved with square stones. It is the longest pedestrian street in Asia and the first-ever commercial pedestrian street in China. Along the street, there are more than 70 European buildings in styles like eclecticism, Baroque and Renaissance. The street reminds everyone of Europe. For those who love architectural art, this place is simply impressive.

Hotel Modern built in 1913 is the most iconic building on Central Street. The structure was built in “the French Renaissance style of Louis XIV” under the influence of Art Nouveau. Besides architecture, Central Street is famous for food. You are highly recommended to try the authentic Russian cuisine here and the most famous “Modern Popsicles” in Harbin. “Modern” is a frozen food brand established by Joseph Kaspé, a French Jew in Harbin in 1906. Now it has been recognised by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China as a “China Time-honoured Brand”. The popsicles are still produced based on the historic and original recipe.
