Tourism Trend: Mega Event Tourism

In the past, if you were invited to fly overseas to watch a concert, it was probably only for super fans.
Now, with mega event travel becoming more common, it's becoming popular for music fans to travel to concerts and for sports fans to attend competitions.

Sports-themed travel

Sports-themed travel is no longer just about watching football and drinking beer in front of the TV. Thanks to some of the best-produced sports documentaries in recent years, sports-themed travel has seen unprecedented growth in the past few years, offering a new way for a new generation of sports fans to travel.
From Formula 1 to cycling to surfing, sports fans are getting out of the house and enjoying the thrill of watching live events around the world, while extending their holidays and enjoying a different kind of travel. The Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, a key event on the 2024 sports calendar, will open at the end of July and run until early September. It is estimated that more than one million tourists will visit the French capital during the games, kicking off a citywide construction and renovation programme, such as the €1.4 billion clean-up of the Seine.

Concert tourism

In recent years, popular singers and artists have become the real stars of the tourism industry, triggering the so-called "Tyler Effect" or "Black Pink Effect". According to travel agency consultants, the travel planning business for overseas concerts has grown by more than 50 per cent. Coupled with the fact that major world music festivals such as the Glastonbury Festival sell out in less than an hour, concert travel is set to become a travel trend not to be ignored in 2024.
